Bléré is the ideal base for exploring the Loire Valley and its famous châteaux. Around La Gâtine campsite, many other surprises and tourist gems await you for a holiday full of discoveries! So, are you ready to follow the guide?

Bléré, a charming town full of surprises for a relaxing day out with the family

Bléré is not just a pretty little village in the heart of Touraine: it also offers a wide range of leisure activities for the whole family, right on the doorstep of the campsite. How wonderful is that? No need to take the car: everything can be done on foot or by bike. Here, you can switch from relaxation to adventure in the blink of an eye!

If you’re a summer camper, we imagine you wouldn’t mind a refreshing dip in the pool… So we’ve got you covered: head to the Bléré inter-communal swimming pool (right next to the campsite)! With pools suitable for all ages and relaxation areas, it’s the ideal activity on hot days. Children can play safely in the paddling pool, while adults enjoy a few laps (or relax on a sun lounger, we won’t judge). Here, there’s no sand in your shoes, just the pleasure of the water! Head to the campsite reception to pick up your discounted entry ticket!

If you’re more of a nature lover and enjoy relaxing, you’re in luck, because we’ve got just what you need right here. Who says you have to go to the ocean to lay out your towel and enjoy a swim? In Bléré, the beach on the banks of the Cher River (500 metres from the campsite) invites you to enjoy sunny days without leaving town. It’s also one of the only natural swimming spots in the area! Between sunbathing, games in the sand for the children and a refreshing swim (supervised from 1pm to 7pm), there’s something for everyone. And the added bonus? Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy by the water’s edge.

And finally, as keeping children entertained is priceless, head to Parc de la Gâtine on the banks of the Cher, just opposite the campsite. This little haven of nature is the ideal place for a quiet stroll and to entertain the children. With slides, swings and climbing frames, your little adventurers will love it!

Embark on a peaceful kayaking trip: Touraine as seen from the Cher River

If you’ve always dreamed of being an explorer but without the adventurous side, the Cher River welcomes you for a peaceful outing on its waters! Just a few minutes from La Gâtine campsite, embark on an aquatic adventure that will delight young and old alike.

The Cher is a tranquil river, perfect for a first kayaking experience that even the youngest can enjoy. Whether you’re a beginner or a thrill seeker, you’ll find the pace that suits you. Glide gently along the water, admire the landscapes as they slowly pass by and let yourself be lulled by the murmur of nature. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a heron or a curious duck that live peacefully in the area!

For a peaceful family outing, opt for the quiet route that will allow you to enjoy the scenery, take photos and even picnic on a small sandy beach by the water. And for the more adventurous, there are also slightly longer routes to discover the Cher Valley in a different way. Head to our partner Aventure Canoë in Chisseaux (9 km from the campsite)! Beautiful trips suitable for the whole family – preferential rates available at reception. As a bonus, you can pass under the arches of the sublime Château de Chenonceau (you can’t get any closer to admire it, that’s for sure).

At your own pace, between green banks, picturesque villages and even a few châteaux in the distance offering an idyllic panorama: make your cruise a precious memory!

An architectural marvel of the Loire Valley: welcome to Chenonceau Castle, the castle of the Ladies and the Loire

Just 7 km from the campsite: head for Chenonceau Castle, with its incomparable elegance and fascinating history (open all year round). Nicknamed the ‘Château des Dames’ (Ladies’ Castle) because of the many women who have shaped it over the centuries, it will impress you as much with its architecture as with its idyllic setting on the River Cher.

As soon as you arrive, you can’t help but be impressed by this architectural feat spanning the river. Between bridges, galleries and French gardens, each one is admirable. Inside, discover richly decorated salons, royal bedrooms and antique tapestries that reflect the history of the French nobility. And even if you’re not a history buff, you’ll be amazed by the beauty of the place… and the urge to photograph everything!

But Chenonceau would not be complete without its famous gardens. Perfectly maintained green spaces, colourful flowers and shaded paths make a stroll here a real treat for the senses. Take the opportunity to wander around, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy a gourmet break in the sunshine.

Built in the 16th century, this château has been marked by influential women such as Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Médicis, who each left their mark. Today, it is one of the most visited monuments in France and a local star of the Loire Valley. Each room and each gallery tells a story and immerses you in the past.

In short, it has everything to charm you!

A day steeped in history in Amboise: between royalty and the genius of Leonardo

Just 10 km from Bléré and the campsite, Amboise is an essential stop on your itinerary in Touraine. Here, you will literally walk in the footsteps of the kings of France… and Leonardo da Vinci! From the majestic castle to the charming old streets and fascinating museums, get ready to take a leap back in time!

The first stop is sure to impress: head to the Royal Castle of Amboise! Standing proudly above the Loire, this castle immerses you in the heart of the Renaissance. It was here that Charles VIII and Francis I lived and where great pages of French history were written. Inside, discover sumptuous rooms and terraces from which you can admire a panoramic view of the Loire Valley. And even the Saint-Hubert Chapel, where Leonardo da Vinci is buried! Yes, it was here that the Italian genius found his final resting place, in a magnificent setting.

Even if you’re not a history buff, the walk is worth it for the panoramic views… Don’t miss the photo opportunity!

A stone’s throw from the castle, you can walk to Clos-Lucé, a magical place where you can discover the fascinating world of Leonardo da Vinci. It was in this beautiful residence that Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life, invited by King Francis I. Now transformed into an interactive museum, children and adults alike will be captivated! Inside, you can explore Leonardo’s historic rooms and workshops, filled with models of his inventions. Between war machines, flying wings and automatons, you will discover that his imagination knew no bounds! Outside, the immersive gardens invite you to extend the experience with life-size reproductions of his inventions (it’s just like the real thing!). We bet you’ll want to try out the catapult or the swing bridge (we promise, it’s safe).

After all these visits, it’s time to recharge your batteries! Take the time to stroll through the narrow streets in the heart of Amboise. Colourful markets, small shops with welcoming terraces overlooking the castle: live like a local for a moment! And don’t miss a short stroll along the banks of the Loire (the guinguette awaits you in summer)…

The Loire and Cher rivers offer peaceful and picturesque cycle paths, ideal for exploring the valley at your own pace. Cycling along the Cher offers a more intimate setting: venture out on quiet, charming routes. Along the water, you can see small ports, picturesque bridges and meadows where sheep graze. It’s the perfect opportunity to take a break, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy nature in peace and quiet, far from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Between nature and architecture: discover the Château de Chamont-sur-Loire and its creative gardens

About thirty kilometres from the campsite, the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire is a must-see for our tourists who enjoy combining history with lush nature. Perched on a promontory overlooking the Loire, the château offers spectacular views and a unique Renaissance atmosphere.

The first part of the visit is dedicated to exploring the monument. The Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire was built in the 15th century and has welcomed famous figures such as Catherine de Medici and Diane de Poitiers (yes, those great ladies again). Its elegant façades, richly decorated salons and large rooms are a reminder of the wealth of the French Renaissance. Every corner of the château tells a fascinating story.

But Chaumont-sur-Loire is not just about its château: its gardens are world-renowned thanks to the International Garden Festival that takes place every year. Landscape designers from around the world come to create temporary gardens that are nothing short of astonishing. Imagine poetic, playful, sometimes even slightly crazy installations… Young and old alike will be completely immersed!

Strolling through these gardens is a bit like walking through a dream: every turn holds a surprise. Let your imagination run wild as you explore! In addition to visiting the château and gardens, the site offers perfect relaxation areas for a gourmet break. You can stroll along the Loire, admire the panoramic views and breathe in the fresh air of the valley. A great outing for the whole family!

Getaway to the Cité Royale of Loches: history, mystery and beautiful views

About 26 km from the campsite, the Cité Royale of Loches offers a real insight into the medieval history of southern Touraine. Perched on a promontory overlooking the Indre valley, this fortified city boasts fascinating monuments, picturesque streets and exceptional panoramic views.

The jewel of Loches is undoubtedly its imposing 11th-century keep. With its thick walls and impressive towers, it tells the story of the lords and kings who lived there. As you stroll through its vaulted rooms, you can almost hear the echoes of knights… (don’t worry, you don’t need to wear armour to visit the site).

The royal castle is just as fascinating. Formerly a royal residence, it has welcomed famous figures such as Charles VII and Joan of Arc. Inside, you can explore the royal apartments, armoury and exhibitions that recount daily life in the Middle Ages. It’s like taking a trip back in time!

Outside the monuments, you can stroll through the narrow streets of Loches. With its cobbled streets, half-timbered houses, small craft shops and welcoming cafés, every corner invites you to explore and enjoy a gourmet break. And if you happen upon the local market, it’s the perfect opportunity to sample delicious local produce and chat with the traders!

To round off your visit, take a moment to stroll along the Indre river and admire the panoramic views of the valley. The gardens and ramparts offer spectacular views, perfect for taking THE photo that your friends will envy!

A life-size animal world: an immersive day at Beauval Zoo

If there’s one outing that the whole family agrees on and can’t wait to go on, it’s the Beauval ZooParc. Located about an hour from the campsite by motorway, it is regularly ranked among the most beautiful zoos in the world. That’s saying something!

Let’s be honest: here, two stars make all the difference! Huan Huan and Yuan Zi, the famous giant pandas, are the park’s main attractions. And with the birth of little Yuan Meng, followed by his twin sisters, it’s a real spectacle unfolding before your admiring eyes.

But Beauval also offers incredible diversity: with more than 35,000 animals and 800 species, Beauval is a veritable modern-day Noah’s Ark. You can see lions, giraffes, elephants and gorillas, as well as rarer species such as okapis and manatees. Travel around the world: from the tropical dome to the giant aviaries and the lions’ rock, plan to spend the whole day here.

In terms of entertainment, two must-see attractions punctuate the visit: the sea lion show and the grand bird show. Imagine hundreds of birds of prey and parrots soaring into the sky above your heads at the same time: thrills guaranteed!

The park is huge but cleverly designed: a cable car takes you from one end to the other (in both directions) and allows you to admire the animals from above without making a sound! Get your camera ready…
